Pack Your Bags! Go for Style, Comfort

European vacation!
Get ready. Get set. Go pack!

I have been asked many times how I smartly pack for getaways big and small.  And I am more than happy to share! As I packed for my European trip this month, which includes a “Sound of Music” tour in Austria, a Mozart dinner concert in Germany and a macaron cooking class (I am so excited!) in Paris, my three goals were style, comfort and versatility.

I fly from Minneapolis to Munich today, and from there our group will travel by train to other destinations in Europe before we finally fly back to the United States from Paris.

Knowing the whirlwind of activities on our agenda, I went for packable, easy-care items that mix and match readily and can easily be handwashed, if necessary.

Here are the designer selections that made the cut for my 11-day trip:

  1. Lilla P, a label known for the best tees and tanks tops. Even a simple cotton tank turns into an adorable little number when you pair it with just the right scarf.
  2. Eileen Fisher, whose classic and easy-care lines always looks elegant.
  3. Beija Flor jeans, which never look baggy thanks to their incredible shape technology. In fact, Travelgirl Magazine writes: “I’ve found my travel pant soul mate in Beija Flor.” And I couldn’t agree more.

  4. State & Manor, which never fails to deliver the ultimate in travel comfort. Think flattering casualwear with an emphasis on luxe.
  5. Comfy USA … the name says it all. The perfect khaki big shirt that I absolutely love will also double as a chic jacket.
  6. Lafayette 148 pin-tuck City pant. These pants are definitely going on my trip. They are super comfortable with great stretch and never look wrinkled.

  7. Mephisto sandals and walking shoes with amazing soft-air technology. I once trekked 13 miles in one day during a vacation. That alone is testament to the comfort of Mephisto footwear.

    How cute are these?

  8. AGL sandals. Since we will be walking all day every day, high heels were not an option for this trip. But my AGLs will be more than appropriate for any dressier occasion during this excursion.

Although a sensible and chic wardrobe selection is imperative for any trip, it’s also a good idea to make sure you tech needs are met. I was thrilled to find the Apple World Travel adapter, for instance, for my iPhone and iPad.

And it’s often the tiny perks, too, that make a vacation memorable and luxurious. I am bringing along my silk eye mask and silk pillowcase from Branche to feel extra pampered. The colored ones are great for travel because there is less of a chance of leaving them in the hotel room.

Lastly, I always put a lavender sachet in my suitcase to keep everything smelling fresh.

The scent of lavender is delightful as you open your suitcase after an international flight.
